The aim of this project is to develop an HEV conversion "kit" that
can be retrofitted to a gasoline-engine car. The test vehicle is
a Ford Contour with the stock V6 and manual transmission. The
transmission bellhousing is modified with a mount for the electric
motor, and an overrunning clutch allows either the electric motor
or the gasoline engine to drive the transmission and wheels.
The battery pack and motor controller are installed in the trunk.
